Apparently, I am a pig. I cleaned the oven today. it was disgusting. I also cleaned out and washed down the fridge. We had jars of things that expired in 2008. We had things I did not even recognize. We had a drawer we have never used, and that I didn't even realize was there. I have no idea how we go from day to day, and don't even notice how bad it gets.
Does this happen to other people? do other people clean more than we do?

Oh, honey, I had to laugh at your post. I sometimes view our refrigerator as our historical museum. As in, "oh, I remember that salsa -- we opened it after that ball game a year ago last May. Good times".
And our oven. Oh my. It's "self-cleaning", but even that's not enough. I had to actually buy Easy-Off to clean it -- it was too far gone for anything less drastic.
But there are more important things than cleaning, and I know you spend your time on more fun and more meaningful stuff than having a spotless oven, so good for you. :-)
